I started out life as a long-haired guitar player who wasn't satisfied with the sounds he could get.

I started modifying guitars, and then I got into amplifiers and speakers. I then went to college to study electronics, and at that time I built organs and synthesizers. When I graduated, I started building consoles, and I founded the AMEK company with Nick Franks in September 1973.

At that time 16-track recording was state-of-the-art, basic console automation was becoming possible and desktop computing did not exist. Things have moved very far and very fast in the past 20 years, and AMEK has been deeply involved in that development process.

Historically, we designed and produced the X-Series; the M-Series; 2016; M2500; ANGELA; APC1000; G2520; MOZART; HENDRIX and EINSTEIN, not even counting the TAC range. This means that we have built and delivered thousands of recording consoles. Over the years a mountain of hits have been recorded on AMEK.

Our current product range is a distillation of all that knowledge and experience. It summarizes concepts in recording consoles which have been developed throughout this 20-year historical period.

Harman International

Whenever the music starts, whether it's live or recorded, chances are good that Harman products are enhancing the experience.

In fact, wherever music is being made, recorded, broadcast or listened to, Harman leads the way in shaping the sound.

Harman recording and broadcast products bring you the music, capturing and enhancing performances and sending it to you in radio and TV broadcasts.

Harman products help manage the production process for music and movie sound in nearly seven out of every ten recording and editing studios. In fact, Harman brands dominate the audio profession. Before any mix is transferred to tape anywhere in the world today, the audio was probably managed by Harman resources.

Audio designers have always found that there is a big difference between a satisfactory working model or prototype and a 'production' unit made in quantity by the factory.

In my early days this problem was solved by having teams of engineers who were essentially building prototypes for sale.

As demand grew it became impractical to expand such a system but I soon discovered that standard manufacturing techniques just do not work when dealing with very high performance audio. It looks easy - but it's very difficult. I often wished I knew someone who could turn my designs into a manufactured product without the enormous costs and low efficiency I was experiencing and who could yet maintain the meticulous performance I was achieving in the design lab. In 1989 Amek made me the kind of offer design engineers dream about. "Just design! You have carte blanche. Leave the business and production side to us"

Since then we have gone from strength to strength. Amek have no secret agenda. They just want the best at a price that is affordable. The new family of System 9098 products satisfies my requirements and judging from the response of the many owners around the world, satisfies theirs as well.
